Zusammenfassung:A method is described for controlling an internal combustion engine 200 having a fuel vapour recovery system. The engine 200, the fuel tank 210 and a carbon canister 230 are connected in a three-way connection 300. The engine 200 can be selectively isolated by a purge control valve, and the fuel tank 210 can be selectively isolated by a fuel tank control valve. The operation of both valves is co-ordinated by an electronic engine controller 120 . In use both the engine 200 and the cannister 230 are isolated from the fuel tank via the said valves, during the carbon canister 230 purge. An improved estimate of the fuel fraction flowing into the engine can be achieved. An engine operating parameter (eg. the air fuel ratio) is controlled based on the said fuel fraction estimate.
