Zusammenfassung: | A method of modelling roller cone drill bits to produce drill bits of optimal performance for particular formations involves calculating from the geometry of cutting elements on each of the roller cones an axial force acting on each of the cutter elements. An iterative procedure is used whereby the placement of the cutting elements is varied and in such a way an optimised drill bit can be determined for drilling a particular formation. The model is based on data related to WOB, rotational speed, cutting element rotation/orientation and on the earthen formation. A method is also disclosed for determining the volume of formation cut by each roller cone. |
