Zusammenfassung:	A metering pump comprises a pump cylinder (10) closed at one end, a pump piston guided therein and delimiting a pump chamber (12), in which the mouths of an intake opening (13) and an outlet opening (14) are situated. A valve element 16 controls the outlet opening (13). In order to achieve a delivery quantity per piston stroke of the metering pump which is independent of the length of the piston stroke the intake opening (13) is disposed in the cylinder jacket (101) and the outlet opening (14) is disposed in the cylinder cover (102), the pot-shaped reciprocating piston (11) is provided in the pot jacket (111) with a relief opening (19) which slides past the intake opening (13) in the course of the piston stroke. The valve element takes the form of a ball (16), over which the pot jacket (111) may slide virtually without a gap, and a compression spring (17) is supported between ball (16) and pot base (112). The metering pump may be used to supply oil to the chain of a chain saw.
