Zusammenfassung: | A method of moulding a composite article 2 having an adhesion preventing surface layer 4 and a substrate layer of a mouldable material 6, comprises the steps of firstly introducing a compatibiliser compound into either a stock of the mouldable material or the surface layer material. The two materials are then brought into contact in a mould under conditions of heat and pressure so that the mouldable material reacts with the material of the surface layer to form a chemical bond at their interface 18 under the influence of the compatibilser compound. The mouldable material may be polyurethane, a polyolefin, or a natural rubber, and the compatibiliser compound may be maleic anhydride. Preferably the adhesion preventing layer material is PTFE or a silicone material. The moulded article formed may have a gripping surface configured to prevent mud from sticking to it. For instance the moulded article may be the sole of a wellington boot, or a shoe, or the tread 26 of a tyre for a mountain bicycle, wheeled vehicle, or tracked vehicle having grooves 28. The method of moulding may include injection, compression or extrusion techniques. |
