Zusammenfassung:	A vehicle seat belt retractor (20) has a spool (50) and a vehicle acceleration sensor having a pawl (310) which is adjustable in position relative to a ratchet (190) on the spool (50). The retractor (20) comprises a frame (30), the spool (50) being rotatably mounted to the frame (30) and a spool locking device for locking the spool (50) against rotation. The spool locking device includes actuating means for actuating the locking device. The actuating means comprises a support (290) carrying a mass (280), and the pawl (310), the mass (280) being arranged to move from an initial position to an actuating position to actuate the pawl (310) into engagement with the ratchet (190) on the spool (50). The actuating means also has an adjustment mechanism for adjusting the distance between the pawl (310) and the ratchet (190). The adjustment mechanism may comprise means for adjusting the support (290) relative to the housing (390), means for adjusting the tip of the pawl relative to the pawl body or a deformable pawl tip.
