Zusammenfassung:Air is supplied via ducts 3 to the cylinder banks 1,2 of an i.c. engine by two turbochargers 5,6 having mechanical regulating devices 8,9, for controlling the angle of incidence of vanes directing engine exhaust gas onto turbine blades of the turbochargers, angle of incidence control units 10,11 also being provided. A charge pressure sensor 13 provides feedback to a charge pressure controller 12. In order to provide control information indicative of a functional defect in a turbocharger, means is provided for determining whether or not the angle of incidence of the vanes is adjustable within a predetermined time, and emitting functional defect information accordingly. Alternatively, the defect information may be generated in response to the detection of the difference between the charge pressures, produced by the two tubochargers, exceeding a predetermined value.
