Static viterbi detector for channels utilizing a code having time varying constraints

A detector (124) is used in detecting data encoded in a read signal received from a storage channel (100). The detector (124) includes a Viterbi detector (124) having a time-invariant structure configured to detect the data encoded according to a code having time varying constraints.
