Zusammenfassung: | A method of making an oil absorbing cloth is disclosed comprising the steps of providing oleophilic fibres, carding them into a web and treating the web to make a mechanically strong cloth. Polypropylene fibres are disclosed and needle punching the crossfolded web is used to create the cloth. Needle punching creates interstices, through which water can pass while the oil is adsorbed on to the fibre surfaces. The cloths are mechanically strong when wet and can be wrung out to release much of the oil collected and allow the cloths to be reused. The cloths may be placed in drains to filter rainwater and collect any oil in the runoff. They may also be used to filter process or cooling water before return to watercourses, etc. |
