Zusammenfassung:If the engine temperature is below a threshold value, eg about 21 {C, the intake valve 50 is opened, eg by an electro-hydraulic actuator 52, during the exhaust stroke so as to heat the intake air located in the intake conduit 40 before that air moves into the combustion chamber during a subsequent intake stroke. Signals from an engine temperature sensor 86, located on the engine block 14 near the combustion chamber 32, and a crank angle sensor 92 are sent to a ECU 100 which controls the intake and exhaust valve electro-hydraulic actuators 52, 72 and the fuel injector 96. The method does not require costly or complex equipment to be added to the diesel engine.
