Zusammenfassung:	In a method for adjusting the side support, as a function of the driving situation of a person sitting in the seat of a vehicle, a lateral acceleration acting on the seat is determined by sensor 31 as reference variable for the adjustment. In order to improve the method in such a way that greater allowance is made for the way in which the sitting person senses lateral acceleration, the specific instantaneous lateral acceleration is weighted with the instantaneous driving speed of the vehicle sensed by sensor 30, and a control variable for the degree of adjustment is derived therefrom by an algorithm 26. Air cushions 14-17 are inflated selectively in pairs depending on the direction of acceleration. They may also be inflated together in dependence on the driving style of the person, which is identified at 28.
