Zusammenfassung:	A radio telephone 100 includes a main battery 101 and is operable in a first communication system. A supplemental module 102 may be attached to the telephone. The module may include a second RF communication circuit for use in a second communication system which may be a satellite system. The supplemental module may comprise an auxiliary battery for extending operating time. The telephone detects which module is present and operates accordingly. The telephone includes a discharging and charging circuit 310 to control charge and discharge of the main and auxiliary batteries in such a way as to allow uninterrupted continuous operation of the telephone.
