Zusammenfassung:	A container for holding the monolith of a catalytic converter comprises a central cylindrical portion 2 attached at each end to frusto-conical inlet and outlet portions 4. The central portion is made by rolling a metal sheet and then welding the overlap at 3b. Each end portion has a radially extending flange 4a, which is fillet-welded as at 4b to the end of the cylinder. In order to prevent damage caused by heat radiating from the hot converter to objects under the car (such as the road surface), the catalyst housing may have located underneath it a heat shield.
