Zusammenfassung:A method or means of monitoring the operation of a solenoid 12 comprises sampling a signal from the solenoid at predetermined intervals, detecting the occurrence of a maximum value and a subsequent minimum value and then detecting an increase in the signal value following the said minimum value. The said increase in the signal value is then compared with a predetermined solenoid characteristic value to verify if the solenoid is operating in the expected manner. The means of detection may be implemented in hardware or microprocessor software. The system may determine that the solenoid has failed if the detection period extends beyond a predetermined period.
