Intumescent coatings derived from partially methoxylated partially methylolated melamine and non aqueous phenolic resins with partial phosphate esters

Two part mixtures of one part being resol phenolic resins diluted with di-ethyl ethyl phosphonate and partially methoxylated partially methalolated melamine reacted with a second part consisting of mixtures of carbonific partial phosphate esters, partial phosphate esters of iso-propyl alcohol and phosphoric acid, produce intumescent coatings whose insulation value reaches an optimum plateau peak within defined limits of the components of the mixture. The first part of the mixture demonstrates extended shelf life. The said mixtures are formulated to form clear and pigmented intumescent coatings as flame retardant paints and in the presence of refractory fillers formulated into fire protective coatings.
