Zusammenfassung: | A liquid-absorbent structure, e.g. an absorbent pad of a diaper, is made from a mixture of fibres comprising from more than 20 to about 80% thermoplastic elastomeric fibres and from about 20 to about 80% of wettable staple fibres, the percentages relating to the combined weight of fibres. The structure has the following properties: a specific liquid saturated retention capacity of at least about 5 grams per gram; a maximum stretch when dry of more than about 60%; a maximum stretch when saturated of more than about 150%; a stretch recovery when dry of more than about 70%; a stretch recovery when saturated of more than about 75%. The elastomeric fibres are suitably melt-blown from a block polymeric material and trap the wettable fibres, which may be of wood pulp. The structure may alternatively be wet-laid. The elastomeric fibres may also be wettable by means of a hydrophilising treatment. Hydrogel material may may additionally be included in the structure. |
