Pipe connector with expansible seal

A rigid tubular fitment, for connecting a flexible pipe 22 to a rigid pipe 20, consists of a hollow shaft 1, having a connector at one end for securing to the flexible pipe and a spigot portion for insertion into the rigid pipe carrying a fixed flange member 6 and three annular plates 9, 14, 13 slidable on the spigot portion, rubber flexible seals 8, 12 located between the flange 6 and first plate 9 and second 11 and third 13 plates respectively, a spacer 10 slidably positioned between the first and second plates 9, 11 and a second spacer 14 slidably positioned behind the third plate 13. A compressible member 15 having outwardly extending wings 16 screw-threadedly engages the shaft 1 behind the second spacer 14. Rotation of the compression member 15 onto the second spacer 14 compresses the seals 8, 12 causing them to bulge outwardly and form a fluid-tight seal between the inner walls 21 of the tube 20 and the fitment. The fitment is especially especially useful in discharging grey water from a ship via the ship's downpipe formed by the rigid pipe 20.
