Zusammenfassung:To detect nitrogeneous substances such as drugs or explosives, articles are subjected to a sequence of excitation pulses to excite nuclear quadrupole resonance in the nitrogen nuclei. A set of overlapped coils are used (10, figure 2), and the excitation E1-E4 and reception S1-S4 periods for the coils are interleaved so that, for example, the second coil is energised E2 before the response S1 due to the first coil is received.
