Zusammenfassung:Disclosed is a process for producing an ultra-white N,N'-ethylene-bis(tetrabromophthalimide) product useful as a flame retardant which comprises reacting ethylene diamine and tetrabromophthalic anhydride in aqueous acetic acid to produce a precipitate of the product compound and drying the precipitate to form a N,N'-ethylene-bis (tetrabromophthalimide) product with a yellowness index of 5 or less. Also disclosed is a flame retardant composition predominantly comprised of N,N'-ethylene-bis(tetrabromophthalimide) of above characteristic and having unprecedented color and high purity.
