Zusammenfassung:A valve 11 controlling the air supply to the injector 10 is open at least during engine starting. The valve 5 controlling air supply to the exhaust upstream of the catalyst 1 may be closed for 3 to 5 seconds after starting. An electronic control unit 14 receiving air flow meter and engine speed, load and temperature inputs controls the operation of the injector 10 and the valves 5 and 11. The air supply to the valves 5 and 11 may be from various sources (Figs. 2 to 7).
