Method and apparatus for compression moulding of sand mould core

Inexpensive sand, e.g. green sand, is packed as moulding sand into a hydraulically actuated compression mould (6) and firstly precompacted in the mould (6) by moving the lower mould tool (7) up towards the upper tool 8, and then finally compacted by moving both tools together. In this manner, complicated mould cores can be produced satisfactorily. Either the top or bottom tool (8, 7) may have moulding recesses (9) or embossing, and either tool, and preferably the upper, may have channel bores (11) via which the sand may be aspirated into the recesses, and via which compressed air can be delivered to eject the moulded core.
