Disposable diaper having reusable elasticized belt

A diaper 10 comprises a rectangular disposable assembly 12 capable of absorbing and containing bodily wastes, including front, crotch and rear portions 20, 22, 24 and a liquid-pervious liner 14 and liquid-impermeable barrier 16 formed together about a liquid-absorbing core 18. A reusable elasticized belt 34 is removably retained by the assembly 12, holding the diaper in place against the body during use. When fastened about a wearer, the belt 34 provides a line of support extending transversely across the body of the core in the front portion 20 of the assembly 12 corresponding to the lower abdominal region of the wearer. The belt cinches to snugly position the chassis assembly for absorbing discharged wastes. Preferably, the core contains a lower pledget with hydrogel that swells outwardly against the belt. Breathable elasticized leg cuffs 28 preferably extend along the side margins of the assembly 12.
