Zusammenfassung:	A self-plugging blind rivet comprising a headed tubular shell 11 and a headed stem 17 extending through the shell 11, has a shell shank 12 of uniform outside diameter, but its tail end 16 is made harder than the region nearer the shank head, by work hardening the reduced tail end 16 by compressing it in a die 27, so that when the rivet is installed the shank 12 initially buckles in the region nearer the shell head 14.
