Espagnolette type locking device

A locking device has a central lock unit from opposite ends of which extend respective connecting members for improving the security of the device. The central lock unit has a case in which a gear member (27) engages respective racks (36, 50) of slidable actuator plates (32, 33) which at their outer ends have mounting blocks (39, 51) respectively. Each mounting block provides a locking pin (43) and also a connecting rod (67) extending out of the case and mounted in an aperture (47) of the block. Each connecting rod is secured to a locking pin bracket (68) and thus as an operating handle connected to the gear member (27) is angularly moved the actuator plates (32, 33) slide and the headed locking pins at the blocks (39, 51) and brackets (68) slide relative to associated keyhole slots of a lock keep at a frame of the wing to which the locking device is fitted.
