Zusammenfassung: | An electromagnet (e.g. for NMR apparatus) has at least first and second spaced windings 1, 2 and ferromagnetic annuli 3, 4 arranged to provide a field having a predetermined homogeneity in a central region. At least one control means may be provided for controlling or maintaining at least one function, or at least one mode of operation, of the electromagnet. A control winding 21 enables the total field to be controlled to any suitable predetermined value. Thermal sensors 26, 27 in the annuli 3, 4 are arranged in feedback circuitry controlling the winding so as to compensate for variations in the effect of the annuli. A magnetic field sensor may also be used for field locking. The magnet windings may be superconductive. |
