Apparatus for maintaining alertness

A system for inhibiting operator drowsiness comprising: an actuation switch in the form of a loot pedal which is normally pressed during system operation; and stimulus producing means producing intermittent stimuli to the operator, the stimulus producing means being responsive to stimulus responses entered by the operator via the actuation switch for determining the timing of subsequent stimuli, whereby relatively quick stimulus-response reaction time produces relatively long periodicity stimulus production.
