A unit 9 determines the quantity of coke in the chamber. In response to the outputs of the detectors 10, 12. General control is effected by a computing device having an operatively connected data processor 2, control device 3, memory 4, and an interface 6 to devices 7, 8, 9. The computing device is arranged to control devices 7, 8 in response to signals from device 9 to select operating chambers distribute a total output among these chambers and provide optimum control of mechanisms of the plant.
