Zusammenfassung:A metal is coated with a corrosion resistant oxide layer, by pre-oxidation at 600 to 800 DEG C in a steam atmosphere then coating with aluminium oxide by the CVD process. A continuous, well adhering Al2O3 layer results which, in the presence of highly corrosive media and high temperatures, affords optimum protection of the base material which protects from permeation of foreign elements, especially hydrogen, of their isotopes, and of carbon. The method is applicable to all metallic materials.
