Protective overcoatings for photoresponsive device

Overcoated photoresponsive device comprising an inorganic or organic photoresponsive material, and an overcoating of a silicone-silica hybrid cross- linked polymeric material. An electrophotographic element may comprise an electroconductive substrate overcoated with a hole injection layer (eg graphite or carbon black dispersed in a polymer) overcoated with a charge transporting layer (eg a diphenylene diamine in a polycarbonate) overcoated with a charge generating layer (eg trigonal Se or vanadyl phthalocyanine) overcoated with the silicone-silica hybrid crosslinked polymer.
