Improvements in Spring Valves for use Outside Barrels and other Vessels

Hinged valves.-A hinged spring-actuated valve for use outside barrels, for closing the same when the tap is withdrawn, comprises a conical block 8 of metal or wood, a rubber disk 9 to form a joint halfway in the tap-hole, and an arm 3 hinged to a steel plate 5. The valve is manipulated by hand but a steel plate spring 2 carried by the plate 5 acts on the end of the arm 3, in the manner of a pocket-knife blade, to hold the valve in either the open or closed position. A second rubber ring may form a joint at the outer corner of the tap-hole. According to the Provisional Specification, the arm 3 is of doubled wire cranked at the ends, and is actuated by a wire spring.
