Ore oxide cast iron and scrup processes.- In a process of refining iron, a quantity of molten metal from a cupola or melting-furnace 1 is collected in a receiver 2 and delivered thence to an intermediate refining-furnace 5, preferably of the tilting open-hearth type, wherein the metal is refined until it contains about 1À5 to 3 per cent of carbon, less than 0À5 per cent of silicon, and less than 0À3 per cent of phosphorus and manganese, and the refining is completed in a number of oscillating puddling- furnaces 10. In the furnace 5, the iron is manganiferous.
