Zusammenfassung: | 1894. Peachey, S. J. Feb. 6. India-rubber, chlorinating; plastic compositions containing chlorinated india-rubber.- India-rubber is treated with chlorine to form a plastic or solid material resembling celluloid or leather. The rubber is first dissolved in chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, or other solvent which does not react with chlorine and which is a solvent of the product to be obtained, hydro-carbons being excluded. This solution, after treatment with chlorine or with a gaseous mixture containing chlorine, is evaporated or distilled. During chlorination, the solution is jacketed with circulating cold water. In an example, 50 grm. of rubber in 1,250 c.c.'s are allowed to absorb 100 grm. of chlorine. Camphor, mineral fillers, or pigments may be added. |
