Filter-beds; filters, cleansing.- In a filter, which is cleansed by returnflow and comprising an open compartment 34, which receives the water, a layer 35 of granular material s u c h as sand, charcoal, -or crushed quartz, and a lower compartment 38 which receives the filtered water ; the compartment 34 is formed with its upper part 32 of reduced area, in order that, while retaining the requisite bead for the filtration, a less quantity of water has to be run away by the cock 30 when the filter is to be cleansed.
