Zusammenfassung:12,226. Kyburg, G. W. May 26. Packeting by wrapping-up. -Relates to a rotary wrapping - ma - chine adapted for wrapping-up packets of fragile materials, such as biscuits the main feature of the invention consisting of means for overcoming the tendency to crush the packets, which are delivered from the rotary carrier by mechanism actuated independently of the feed mechanism. The packets are fed to a conveyer 6, Fig. 2, which pushes them over a table 5 into a vertical shoot 8. The lowermost packet is pushed out of the shoot by a reciprocating plunger 33 actuated by cam mechanism, and comes in contact with a web of paper fed from a reel 59 and so disposed that its end stands vertically in front of the packet. The packet, carrying with it the wrapping-paper, enters between spring plates 104 mounted in the jaws of the rotary carrier 97, and the paper is severed by a knife actuated in known manner. The carrier is fitted with two pairs of plungers 101, each pair being mounted on parallel shafts 99 and 100 respectively, passing transversely through the carrier. The plungers are actuated by sliding pieces driven by cam mechanism so that as one packet enters the jaws, the plungers move back to admit it and at the same time ejects the packet from the opposite jaws of the carrier. The plungers carry end plates 102 which fold in the ends of the wrapper. The upstanding part of the wrapper is folded down by contact with a leather &c. covered arm 135, and the final folding is effected during the ejection of the packet by curved and slotted plates 128. The wrapping-web is impregnated with paraffin or other material which is softened by a steam chamber 143 during the final closing so as to complete the package. The upper part of the shoot 8 is offset in respect to the carrier 6, as shown in Fig. 4, and curved plates a, bare provided to guide the package. The shoot is surmounted by a pressing-plate 17, Figs. 2 and 4, actuated by a spring and raised by lever mechanism to permit the entrance of a package. The forward edge 23 of the plate 17 is turned up to form a stop. The lift of the plate can be adjusted to correspond with the size of the package.
