Improvements in Retaining Walls for Preventing Land Slips

Retaining - walls for preventing landslips, erosion of river and canal banks, sustaining platforms for water - lifting plants, and for similar purposes are made permeable and yielding, for example in the form of dry stone walls held together by means of wire netting, ropes, or the like. Such walls a, b, c are built with flat tops and faces, and may be anchored at the ends only in solid soil as shown at b, or may lie upon solid soil through the whole of its length as shown at a and c. After the first subsidence, the concavity formed upon the top of the wall is filled in. A drain may be provided in the lower parts of the work.
