Zusammenfassung:23,899. Alltree, A. Oct. 19. Variable-speed epicyclic gearing.-In changespeed gearing for motor-cycles, of the kind in which two epicyclic reducing trains are arranged to provide a direct top drive and two or more lower speeds, compound planetpinions are used with the internal ring and sun-pinion of either or both trains. As shown, the second train has compound pinions F, F' gearing with an internal ring J and a sun-pinion K, and for the direct drive the two sunpinions K, L are clutched to rotatable members such as the carriers I, C. For a lower gear, the pinion L is moved into engagement with a fixed clutch B, and for a still lower gear, the pinion K is clutched to the pinion L which is still held stationary. The gear may be arranged to give four speeds by employing each train separately for the two intermediate gears and then together for the lowest gear. The compound pinions may be used in the first train instead of in the second, or they may be used in both trains. The axle is preferably formed with a removable end-piece A' held in place by a screw A , which is hollow to accommodate the rod A . The axle is held against rotation by an anchor arm Y bolted or clipped to the adjacent frame member Z, as described in Specification 13,728/12.
