Zusammenfassung: | 28,297. Sachsenr÷der, G. Dec. 15. Parchment paper; boards and compound paper.-In connexion with the manufacture of buttons from thick parchment paper, it is stated that a paper web of the necessary thickness cannot successfully be converted into vegetable parchment, while layers of finished parchment united by pressure are liable to separate when moistened. The process employed consists in passing a number of webs of paper through a suitable parchmentizing-bath, and, when they are thoroughly impregnated, passing them through press rolls. The material then forms a homogeneous mass which is washed and dried. The buttons, which can be dyed and polished, are stamped into forms such as are shown in Figs. 2 and 4; in the latter case the parchment a is covered with fabric b. Specifications 1008/77, [Class 142, Weaving &c.], and 576/80 are referred to. |
