Noxious gases, consuming; ashes, removing.- Noxious gases from chemical and technical workshops, and from crucible, boiler, and like furnaces are destroyed by being passed upwards through the grates of two or more furnaces in succession. As shown in Fig. 2, the gases enter the first furnace by a passage c and after passing through the grate b flow into the second furnace through a passage c , and so on. Two series of furnaces may be arranged side by side and worked together or separately. Fuel is fed from hoppers i having double slides g, h. In the ash-pit, bars k, Fig. 3, are arranged as shown, and the spaces between them may be closed, when the space m is being cleared, by sliding-plates n operated by rods o. Inspection openings x closed by selenite are provided in vertically-sliding doors s. |
