Zusammenfassung: | 6835. Jones, W. D. Douglas-. March 18. Hinges specially adapted for the folding sides and ends of meat trollies &c. Joints of the kind in which a tongue forming one joint member is pivoted between a pair of cheeks forming the other joint member, the cheeks being connected by a web against which the end of the tongue bears to form a stop, are also provided with a stop at the opposite side of the pin, such stop comprising a sideways projection or projections on the tongue adapted to engage an abutment or abutments on the cheek. The cheeks e, united by a web d, are provided with a pair of horns or abutments f on their upper ends, and the tongue member G, which is attached by a shank to the trolley side H, is pivoted between the cheeks e and has a pair of projections p and a portion n for engaging the horns f and web d respectively. The cheeks c have curved faces q, upon which the projections p bear so as to take strain off the pivot pin. The construction is adapted to allow the sides H to be turned into the horizontal position and overlap. The horns may be replaced by a web connecting the cheeks at their upper ends, and horns may be provided on the lower parts of the cheeks and tongue respectively. The joint may be locked in its open or closed position by a headed pin r passing through holes t, u in the joint members. A groove v allows the passage of a projection s on the pin r, which, after insertion, is turned to bring the projection out of register with the groove v. In a modification, shown in Figs. 7 and 8, several joints are simultaneously locked by a rod r provided with flattened portions s and controlled by a spring w. The tongues G are provided with slots v' leading to the holes t'. When the rod r is pushed to the left against the action of the spring w, the flattened portions s register with the slots v and the joints can be opened or closed. Instead of the rod r , a rod with collars shrunk on may be employed, the collars being of the same diameter as the holes t , and the rest of the bar of such a diameter as to pass through the slots v . A further modification, for locking the joint in the open position only, consists of a pivoted bar a , Fig. 9, engaging lugs b on the cheeks. The bar a' is doubly pivoted to allow it to be folded under the lugs b when the joint is closed. |
