Zusammenfassung:5378. Hill, E. R. March 11, 1910, [Convention date]. Track apparatus for stopping trains.-A guard is provided for the train controlling member that actuates the brakes or cuts off power, and serves to remove obstructions and to set a m a n u a l l y - controlled track obstacle in position to actuate the train - controlling member. The trip member is carried on a crank arm 16 on a shaft 15 which is controlled in conjunction with the signals. The arm 20 is held by springs in line with the arm 16 so as to be vertical when the signal is at ' danger ' to engage the guard lever 13, 14 on the train. The arm 19, 18 is thus bought into position to engage the valve handle 11 which travels in the same line as the guards 13, 14. The arms 18, 19 yield slightly when struck by the valve handle 11. Springs return the arms to the central position. In a modification only one arm is used on the trip device and is made to return to the vertical after passage of the guards in order to engage the valve handle.
