Zusammenfassung:24,185. Wertenbruch, F., and Wertenbruch, F. Oct. 19 Screw and like conveyers; temperature, controlling.-Materials to be dried are fed to a machine of the type described in Specification 3092/01 by means of an interrupted screw-conveyer working in a steam-heated trough. Improvements in the construction of the conveying and agitating blades and in the heating arrangements are also described. The material is dried in a trough 1 formed of hollow sections 7 connected above and below by pipes 10, 11, the connexions being on opposite sides of the trough alternately. The trough 1 is contained in a casing 14, above and on one side of which is a feed-trough 12 containing an interrupted screw-conveyer 72. The trough 12 is formed of hollow sections 17, connected on opposite sides alternately. The material is agitated in the trough 1 by blades 44, 45, 46 mounted on steampipes 20 carried on rotary hollow disks 22, 23. The blades 44 at the feed-end of the trough are freed from material adhering to them by rotary blades 51 shaped so as to throw the material towards the delivery end of the trough. The blades 45 in the middle of the trough are furnished with an inclined side, and the blades 46 at the delivery end with two inclined sides. Among the blades 46 are other similar blades mounted on channel-irons 49. Steam enters the disk 23 after passing through a nest of small tubes 34, and then passes by the tubes 20 to the disk 22. The condensed water in the disk 22 is lifted by troughs 30 to a pipe 31, and passes with the steam to the hollow sections 7 in the trough 1, then to radiators 15 in the bottom of the casing 14, and finally to the hollow section 17 of the trough 12. Vapour from the material being dried passes to a chimney 57 with sloping sides 56. Moisture condensing in the chimney 57 falls on to a tray 61, and that on the sides 56 flows to a trough 60. A modification is described in which the blades 44, 45, 46 are carried on separate bars secured to the tubes 20, which in this case are of steel, by straps.
