Zusammenfassung: | 21,454. Joy, C. L. Sept. 15. Disk and wheel apparatus. - A machine for buffing cutlery to give a final polish is constructed so that the blade is moved across the buffing - wheel with one half of one side of the blade in contact with the wheel, and is then turned slightly to present the other half of the same side of the blade for buffing on the return stroke, and on the completion of the operation, the blade is taken abruptly a w a y from the buffing-wheel, approximately at rightangles to its surface. The blade-holder 41 is mounted on arms pivoted upon members 38, 39 carried by a sleeve 37 mounted upon the cylindrical end 36 of a square bar 34, which is carried in longitudinal guides 35. The bar 34 is moved to-and-fro to carry the knife over the buffing-wheel by a lever 29, adjustably pivoted at 27, and actuated by a groove-cam 24 engaging a bowl 25 on the lever. A cam-surface 56 is engaged by a lever connected with the blade-holder to keep the blade away from the buffing-wheel 4, and on movement of the bar 34, the lever slips off the camsurface and allows one side of one face of the blade to be moved along in contact with the buffing-wheel 4. At the end of the travel of the blade, a cam 60 on the shaft 22 raises a surface 65, upon which runs a lever 67 integral with the sleeve 37, and consequently turns the sleeve 37 carrying the blade-holder and causes the other side of the same blade face to be brought into contact with the buffing-wheel 4 during the return stroke. At the end of this stroke, the cam-surface 56 causes the blade to be abruptly moved away from the buffing-wheel. The duration of travel of the bar 34 is regulated by a pin 74, which is carried by the starting- lever 78, and which, according to its vertical adjustment, enters the required point in a scroll 72, on escaping from which it allows movement of the connected levers 78, 80 to shift the belt 5 from the fast pulley 11 to the loose pulley 10 of the main driving-shaft 12. |
