Sea and retaining walls; dykes; groins, beach; canals and rivers; weirs.-A metal revetment or gabion, for protecting banks, slopes, &c., and for constructing weirs and dams, or buttresses or walls for protecting slopes of hills against land-slides, consists of a number of sack-like elements con. nected together during the process of manufacture without the formation of double walls as distinct from separate elements placed side by side and connected together. The elements are filled with pebbles. Figs. 3 and 4 show one form of revetment and Fig. 15 one application of the gabions.
