Zusammenfassung:25,366. Eley, C. V. A., and Brady, T. P. Nov. 25. Miners' safety lamps, electric. Fig. 1 shows a battery lamp having the following features :-(1) A cutout consisting of a spring arm g held against a stop by a spring-pressed rod i. This rod i bears either upon a glass ring or the like j, which breaks and releases the rod upon fracture of an outer glass b, or upon a metal ring surrounding and released by the fracture of the lamp-bulb. Separate cutouts, operated by the outer glass and the bulb, may be provided. (2) A screwed or hinged cover which is retained by a catch and can only be released by a magnet or a key. The catch may be mounted on a spring tongue n, Fig. 1, or it may consist, as shown in Fig. 8, of a pivoted hook m, which can be retracted against a spring by applying a magnet to a piece of iron 2. (3) A switch, consisting of a spring o, forming one terminal and a screw r by which it can be pressed against a second terminal. The screw is tight-fitting and provided with rubber washers to prevent escape of gas, and the switch is enclosed by a cap u. (4) Terminals on the accumulator, having round and rectangular slots to receive corresponding plugs for charging, the plugs being held by spring rubber washers x. Celluloid covers y for insulating, and a fuse in case of short circuits, are provided ; the fuse-wire z may be in a connecting-plug as shown in Fig. 9, or in a terminal. Similar fuses are provided in the internal connexions. (5) A guard for the outer glass b, consisting of bars d, or wire, or a perforated guard of expanded metal. The lamp is shown mounted on a porcelain base which forms a box for the cut-out and is screwed into the lower part of an iron case, but in modifications the lamp and cut-out are at the bottom of the lamp chamber or the lamp chamber is above the accumulator, with the lamp in either a vertical or an horizontal position, a lens being provided in the latter construction. According to the Provisional Specification, the rod operating the cut-out may bear directly on the lamp bulb or the outer glass.
