Railways for recreation.-Parallel sets of rails are arranged on a chute shaped as shown in Fig. 3 so that two or more sledges may be given varying velocities &c. A depression is provided at 27, the part 14 to 27 being twice as steep as that between 27 and 15. The sledges tend to jump part of this course. The end of the course is spread with spent tan and the usual chain elevator is arranged up an incline at the side. An entrance may be provided by a central incline 10, Fig. 2, approached by a passage 11 and steps 8. Or the incline 10 may be placed at one side of the course. A space 9 is left for the use of attendants. The rails 3, Fig. 8, and their supports are pointed as at 17, Fig. 8, and at 16, Fig. 7, to avoid jerks to the sledges.
