Zusammenfassung: | 5523. Pain, J. C., Pain, A., and Pain, P. March 11. Line-throwing apparatus -A line-throwing projectile, which may be fired from a cannon, pistol, or other fire-arm, has at one end a projecting charge A and at the other end a rocket charge D, the two charges being separated by a block X. The projectile reverses end-for-end at the beginning of flight, and the rocket charge imparts a second propelling impulse during flight, The line Z to be thrown is attached to a loop or bridle B carried by arms B passing round a recess C x in the projectile, and is coiled in a suitable receptacle near the cannon. When the ignition of the charge A drives the projectile from the cannon &c., the fuse E is ignited, and ignites a time fuse H, which fires the rocket charge D before the projectile has lost its momentum. The time fuse H is surrounded by a non-combustible packing, and the bridle and the end of the line Z are non-combustible. The charge A may be placed separately in the gun instead of forming part of the projectile. |
