Zusammenfassung: | 19,514. Price, W. S. Feb. 15, 1908. Steering by screw propellers; propeller guards.-Screw propellers are mounted in athwartship tubes at the bow and stern of a vessel, and are operated by the shaft D from a motor, preferably an electric motor. Two propellers of opposite pitch are mounted in each tube and driven by bevel-wheels or worm gearing in opposite directions. The motors for the bow and stern tubes are independent, and are controlled by separate steering-wheels mounted parallel to each other and at such a distance apart that they may be simultaneously manipulated by one person. Louver boards E are fitted at the ends of the tubes, and are also adapted to be operated from the steering-wheels. |
