Zusammenfassung: | 19,472. Titterton, F. Aug. 30. [Cognate Application No. 21,431, A.D. 1907, dated Sept. 27.] Fastenings, railway-carriage door. -In that type of railway-carriage door fastening in which the bolt is operated by a wind vane secured to the side of the carriage, two bolts 1 are provided operable by the bar 9 on the vane spindle 5, so that one or the other is shot according to the direction of travel of the train. The bolts are provided with friction rollers 16, 17 and are notched at the end as at 20, so that any attempt at withdrawing the bolts by a person leaning out of the carriage is prevented, the bolt in such a case being forced to engage with a projection 24 in the socket 21 or on the tubular casing 15. The vane spindle runs on ball bearings. The vane is pivoted at 23 to the rod 3 so -that in case of accident, should the carriage fall on its side, the vane of the uppermost door falls towards the carriage, where it comes in contact with a double wedge piece 22 secured to the carriage and adapted to bring the vane to releasing position. In another form of the fastening shown in Fig. 8, a single bolt is employed ; this is operated by means of a cam 38 on the vane spindle, and is provided with a slot 39 engaging with a roller 40 on the bolt. |
