Zusammenfassung:19. Bailey, C. F. Jan. 1. Moulding saggers; pottery, saggers for. In making saggers, plastic clay cr the like is extruded through a die and cut into lengths, which are wound circumferentially round a cylindrical or other shaped former in order to form the side walls of the saggers, the meeting edges of the strip of clay being joined with the aid of slip, water, &c. The side wall thus formed is placed, either with or without the former, upon a bottom consisting of a bat of clay moistened with slip or water upon its upper surface, and the edge of the bat, which projects beyond the lower end of the sagger wall, is turned up and made to adhere to the outer surface of the wall. In order to expedite the moulding of the clay strips, the extrusion mouth-piece may be divided transversely by a vertical rib or ribs formed within it, so that two or more strips can be formed side by side. Alternatively, the clay stream may be divided by means of a device shown in side elevation in Fig. 2 and in plan in Fig. 3, and comprising vertical blades i, which are provided with ends of square, rectangular, or other section fitting into holes e in upper and lower bars d, f secured in front of the mouthpiece.
