Signals, flash, heliograph, and military; recording signals.-Relates to a method of signalling by means of a beam of light which is interrupted according to code by means of a perforated band of opaque material. The signals may either be read by eye or received on a moving photographic film. An occulting shutter worked by hand may also be used, and the perforated band may be used to work one or more shutters. If lights of different colours are used at the transmitting- station, any number of separate messages may be simultaneously transmitted to the receiving-station, where, by means of a prism, the differently coloured lights are dispersed, and the different sets of signals are received separately on the moving photographic film. Non-luminous rays may also be used. The method of working is shown in Fig. 1. The light from the lamp L is brought to a focus on the moving perforated band A by means of the lens B. A second lens C renders this intermittent beam parallel, and it is then brought to a focus at the receiving-station on the moving photographic film E, by means of the lens D, to give a photographic record of the signals. When several signals are being sent from the transmitting-station by using differently coloured lights, either a correctly adjusted plane mirror, or a rapidly rotating mirror is used, to reflect the light signals to the receiving-station. When the apparatus is to be used in the daylight, a tube of sufficient length to cut off diffused light from the sky and the surrounding bodies is set in front of the lens D of the receiver,
