Tyres, elastic other than pneumatic.-In a tyre comprising a series of resilient blocks or elements secured to the wheel by radial attaching-devicÚs, the blocks are formed with perforations, grooves, or recesses, perpendicular or parallel to the plane of the wheel, and the attaching-devices are made of articulated members. As shown in Fig. 1, each block a is square, bevelled transversely, and provided with holes b, through one of which passes an auxiliary fastening-bolt e secured to the rim flanges, Springs may be fitted within the perforations b. Fig. 11 shows a modification, in which the holes b run along the rim and a groove is provided, so that on compression the lower edges pass into grooves b in the rim. In the construction shown in Fig. 6, the elements are cylindrical, one of them being a metal tube. The fastening- device f consists of a hollow wedge shaped block, with wide lugs m at the ends to overlap the blocks a and give continuity, and an open inner edge into the enlarged centre of which passes the head g of a piece provided with a vertical slot, engaged by a transverse bolt h passing through the eye of an adjustable boltj. One piece g is used on each side of the bolt j. The piece f may be integral with a slotted lug g , Fig. 1, or may be of T-shape, the blocks a not being bevelled. A roughened tread n is dovetailed into each block f.
